Rainy Day

It's cold outside and if you are a mom like me, you are running out if indoor activities. Here is one that is educational and fun. Chances are, you have all the stuff you need right in your pantry/craft drawer.

What you'll need:
1 paper plate
Craft glue
Different grains/cereal {not the kind of cereal that changes the color of your milk...just because this is a nutrition blog}
Ribbon or string
A bowl

First, get your supplies in order and pick out your grains. We used polenta, couscous, steel cut oats, rolled oats, tapioca, brown rice and quinoa.

Second, place/squirt glue on one section of the plate. Pour the grain of choice, covering the entire glued section. While you are working with the grain tell your child about it. Where it comes from, how you cook it, etc. Shake off the excess and pour into a bowl. Repeat this until the entire plate is covered with different grains. Let dry.

Third, glue a ribbon on the back and hang it up to show off. There is really nothing to do with it other than decorate. My son wanted it hung from the light in our kitchen. So funny. I guess it makes good dinner conversation.
