The government and how we eat

I just returned from Washington D.C. A food exhibit was going on at the National Archives while I was there, What's Cooking, Uncle Sam? Displays illustrated how the government has impacted the way we eat. Everything was very positive, of course it would be. Plus, it was sponsored by Mars. The government has done some great things and I think they mean well. However, when it comes to the nutrition of this nation...we have a long way to go!

Yes, butter was considered it's own food group at one point.
The 60's were about making life a little easier for the housewife. Convenience, packaged, and processed foods were this amazing new invention.
Every child does NEED a good school lunch, we are still working on that one.
As non-appetizing as ham shortcake sounds, the ingredients are real. This is much better than what most schools are feeding our children.
Fortification. This is funny to me because this could be compared to any sweetened breakfast cereal we eat today. We are still talking ourselves into vitamin-packed junk food.

This is still true today. A garden is a good thing.
