You're gonna wanna try this

Maybe we should thank the pregnancy on this recipe which I concocted during my drive home from work yesterday.
*Note: You technically aren't supposed to consume soft cheeses like brie when you are pregnant because of the possibility of getting listeria. However, heat kills the bacteria. Therefore, this is safe.

I call them...

Brie Stuffed Turkey Burgers with Sauteed Onions and Slivered Pears
Makes 4 Burgers

Ingredients:
For the Burgers-
1 pound lean ground turkey
4 oz Brie, cut into 4, 1 oz slices
Salt, pepper, garlic powder, cinnamon
2 tsp canola oil
Toppings-
1 medium bartlett pear (in season right now...perfect)
1 golden onion, chopped
2 tsp canola oil
Salt and pepper
Baby spinach (preferrably organic)
Sauce-
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 TBS mustard
1 TBS honey

4 100% whole wheat english muffins, toasted (English muffins make the perfect hamburger bun, not too much bread. Plus, I have yet to find a high-fiber, less than 200 calories, non-HFCS containing bun that I like)

Preparation:
1. Place ground turkey in a medium bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Add in about 1-2 teaspoons each of garlic powder and cinnamon. Sounds weird I know, but it makes it. Mix. Score the meat into 4 sections.
2. Take 1 oz of the sliced brie and form a patty around the cheese. Do this 4 times.
3. Heat oil in a skillet set to med-high heat. Add hamburger patties. Cook until the burgers are not pink and the cheese is melted. About 6 minutes per side.
4. Meanwhile add onions to another skillet heated with the oil. Sautee until transparent and slightly brown. Add salt and pepper to taste.
5. Combine ingredients in a small bowl to make the sauce.
6. Assemble burgers. Place toasted english muffin on a plate. Place spinach on the bottom and the turkey patty on top. Add the sauteed onions and then the slivered pear. Top with the sauce. Enjoy.

My whole little family loved these. Let me know what you think.

  1. I just had one, it was great. The only difference was Breck added balsamic to the onions. Thanks! Keep them coming.
