As I have mentioned before, I work at the top employee benefits firm in the state. A little over three years ago, they started a wellness department and hired an amazing Wellness Director. I was hired shortly after to focus on developing nutrition programs for the workplace. Last year we added another Wellness Consultant to the mix. We have so much fun creating programs, assisting our client's wellness committees, and implementing the importance of good health at work. After all, this is one of the BEST way to lower health care costs. And who better to believe that? A broker of health insurance! Wouldn't you agree?
As of right now, we are running a veggie program through the summer. We ordered an organic veggie share at work from Bell Organic Farms and each week we try something new with the veggies.
A couple of weeks ago we made a salad, chopped up some cauliflower, and held a contest for the employees. I asked people to email me with three nutrients kale is know to be a good source of. The first to respond correctly took home some fresh produce. It is a great way to provide a little nutrition education and a healthy snack while supporting local agriculture. Plus, it sure beats the doughnuts and muffins you might see in other corporations!
Tonight I am picking up my share of veggies. I will be out of town next week so I am thinking of giving away my share. What do you think?
